Population: 23,000

The Shabak peoples are an ethnic minority (only 250,000-300,000 people) that live in a handful of villages surrounding the city of Mosul including the city of Tel Kayf. 70 percent of the Shabak population identify as Shia Muslims and the rest are Sunni Muslims. Though they identify as Muslims, the Shabak people have branched off from traditional Islam. They’ve incorporated aspects of Christianity and Sufism into their Islamic beliefs.

“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:25-26

Lord, the Shabak people need You to cleanse them. Give them a heart of flesh. They are a people group that borrowed from different religions and are even divided in their beliefs trying to find Hope; Lord, show them that Jesus is the only way to a relationship

with You. That You have provided One way for us to know You. Draw people from this group to Yourself and give them a heart to share Your Truth with others even if it costs them their lives. Lord, show the Shabak people that Jesus is worth it all.
